How AeonX builds with Claude

AeonX runs every product repository as a Claude Code project. About Ashapura Minechem

Ashapura Minechem Limited is India's largest bentonite mine owner and exporter, with employees spread across mines, plants, offices and ports. Staff travel regularly between sites, which makes travel and expense a high-volume, everyday process.

The challenge

Expense claims at Ashapura were handled on paper. Employees collected bills, filled in forms and sent them for approval; accounts checked each bill by hand; and reimbursements queued up at month end. Travel was booked outside any central tool, so policy compliance depended on individual discipline, and there was no single view of spend.

Architecture

Xpense is multi-tenant SaaS on AWS (ECS Fargate in Mumbai, S3, SES, QuickSight) with a separate database for each customer. A PHP (Yii2) API with about 130 controllers serves a Next.js admin portal and a Flutter traveller app, and integrates with SAP and Tally, TBO for travel, the OmniCard prepaid card, WhatsApp and AWS Marketplace billing. An MCP server exposes Xpense to AI agents.

Delivery timeline

Where Claude comes in

Xpense has been built since 2023, and Ashapura went live on it in January 2025. From March 2026 the Xpense team built the platform's major 2026 release with Claude Code: about 1,050 commits across the API, admin portal and mobile app carry a Claude co-author, from six developers, covering hybrid AI receipt OCR, Smart Approver, the rebuilt flight engine, TBO hotels, the AeonX prepaid card, SAP FI invoicing and the WhatsApp assistant.

In the product, Claude (called through the Anthropic API) reads receipts and verifies its own extraction, decides whether a flagged bill is really a duplicate, rates each submitted report Green, Amber or Red for the approver, and powers a WhatsApp expense assistant. Auto-approval of Green reports is off by default; people make the call.
